About Georgia's Newest City

• Dunwoody officially became a city in December 2008, but the area has been known as Dunwoody for over 30 years.
   
• The population of Dunwoody is aproximately 40,000, but 100,000 people commute daily to Dunwoody to work in Perimeter Center
   
• The city is a mere 13.1 square miles...  80 percent of which is residential homes.
   
• As late as the 1970s, Dunwoody was mostly farm land.  The area where Perimeter Mall is today was a pasture filled with farm animals.
   
• Perimeter Mall is the south's second largest shopping mall with 18 million visitors per year.
   
• Many people (including residents!) are often confused about the dividing line between Dunwoody and Sandy Springs.  It's easy to remember when you know this - all of Dunwoody is in DeKalb County and all of Sandy Springs is in Fulton County.
   
• Dunwoody is just "one stop from Tokyo" with three MARTA stations that will take you directly to Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
   
• Dunwoody is home to the voice of Hollywood, Ryan Seacrest. 
   
• Considered one of the safest cities in Georgia, Dunwoody has its own police force with one officer to every 847 people.
   
• One of Dunwoody's most historic buildings dates from 1829.  The Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church, at the corner of Roberts Drive and Spalding Drive, is still active to this date and is also the home to one of the city's oldest cemeteries, where many of the founding fathers of Dunwoody are buried.
   
• The Dunwoody area was pioneered in the early 1830s and is named for Major Charles Dunwody (1828 - 1905), an extra "o" was added with the incorrect spelling of the name on a banking note.
