About Dunwoody, Georgia
In 2005, a three-year effort began with the Citizens for Dunwoody, Inc. (CFD) and has grown to more than 500 volunteers and community leaders to study the pros and cons of cityhood. The CFD board members have included:

City History
December 2005, Senator Dan Weber began drafting the legislation and championed efforts resulting in House Bill 82 (HB82) to give Dunwoody citizens the right to vote on incorporation.
January 2006, the Dunwoody Homeowners Association (DHA) began to host a series of public forums.
The DHA meetings had regular attendance exceeding 400 people for presentations and debate.
February 2007, HB82 was passed by the House by a vote of 38 –15.
March 2008, Representative Fran Millar led passage of HB82 in the House by a vote of 106 – 60.
July 15, 2008, more than 81% of the voters made a clear mandate by approving the referendum to create the new City of Dunwoody.
Next Steps for the City
On September 16, 2008, residents of the new City of Dunwoody elected their first Mayor and City Council.

District 3 (Eastern): Tom Taylor, John Heneghan
The Council was sworn in on September 24 and began city and ordinance planning.
December 1, 2008 - Dunwoody, the 14th largest city in the state of Georgia, began operations to transition the services of police, roads & drainage, parks & recreation, zoning & land use, code enforcement, permits, business license, traffic lights, building inspections and municipal court from DeKalb County.
